Breaking news from Pebble Beach Golf Links in California – Scottie Scheffler just shanked an approach into a greenside bunker on the par four No. 11 and made a bogey. He’s human, sort of. The difference between Scheffler and most of the amateurs who go around Pebble Beach is that Scottie will likely play the last seven holes under par and not to mention – his shank backs him up to seven-under which ain’t too shabby. He is very much in position to win this tournament, his first event of the 2025 PGA Tour season.
The bunker where Dustin Johnson grounded his club at the 2010 U.S. Open at Whistling Straits was photographed so much that it slowed down play and had to be covered. Certainly, the bunker Bryson DeChambeau got up and down from on No. 18 at Pinehurst No. 2 is a popular photo opportunity too, but now – anyone can visit the 11th at Pebble where Scheffler hammered a drive 291 yards leaving only 82 yards to the flag and then it happened – Scottie missed the green by more than 40 feet which is unfathomable by his standards.
