South Carolina: Haig Point, Quick Look

There isn’t a bridge to the Haig Point golf course community on Daufuskie Island. It’s water taxi or ferry and then it’s golf carts for getting around. Only five miles long and two and half miles wide, it’s perfectly small. For a pelican, Savannah, Georgia is about 12 miles to the south. Hilton Head is a 10-minute water taxi ride across the sound.

This functional lighthouse is also a two bedroom villa–real-time ghost stories included with the stay

Daufuskie Island is quintessential South Carolina lowcountry charm. Big oaks are covered in swaying moss and the classic salt marsh is adequately part of the golf course. Common in these parts, the lighthouse is haunted by the young girl that died there more than 100 years ago.

Approximately 350 people have memberships at Haig Point. They enjoy the equine center, play golf and tennis, stroll on the beach and attend a regular schedule of cocktail parties. The residents here love it and it doesn’t take long to understand why. No cars, no traffic and no stress on Daufuskie.
