A Few Unique Golf Companies and Why We Like Them

In the last decade — we’ve seen a surge in unique golf brands. New brands are entering the industry and doing things differently. Here a few we like.

The only way to travel

Ship Sticks

Travel ain’t like it used to be. I’ll never forget when I was a kid and Delta let my grandparents board the plane, walk me to my seat and give me a hug goodbye. These days it’s heightened security and baggage fees. A service we enjoy and use as often as possible is Ship Sticks. They pick your clubs up from your house and deliver them to your final golf destination. And the rates are reasonable – domestic round-trip service is often less than $100.

Bobby Clampett’s Impact Zone Golf

Golf is more fun when we perform at or above our potential. And definitely more fun when we smoke everyone in our group and take the Nassau. Every few months we head down to Naples and see our friend Bobby Clampett. Most know him for his commentary on CBS, but before he analyzed golf – he had a brilliant collegiate career at BYU and then won on the PGA Tour. Their approach to teaching the golf swing is about one thing – impact.

Vice Golf Balls

This Munich, Germany-based golf ball company has an interesting story. Two attorneys there wanted to launch an online/mail order business. They’re not even golfers. It came down to either toilet paper or golf balls. They went with golf balls and as they say, the rest is history. Vice offers a “buy in bulk” discount. For just $25 a dozen – golfers get a premium golf ball similar to the most popular brands.

G Golf Ireland, an Ireland Golf Tour Operator

Ireland is one of our favorite places to play in the world, but here’s a word of advice. Seek the advice of local guides for a more comfortable experience. Co-founded by Mark and Frank Gannon, G Golf is the self-branded “The Company of Champions.” Their slogan makes sense, Mark is one of only two players to have won the Irish Boys, Youths and Men’s Championship. The other is Rory McIlroy. From Northern Ireland and the Royal Portrush Golf Club to the south of the Emerald Isle – the boys at G Golf take care of golf, accommodations, transportation, dining and any other ideas.

Over a pint of Guinness at County Louth just north of Dublin, we spoke with G Golf CEO Joe Shannon. We discussed several things, but someone asked Joe about some of the big problems he’s had to deal with in his career.

Shannon shared this, “We’ve hosted thousands of golfers through the years and rare is any snag at all. But I can tell you this, if the wheels come off, you end up in the slammer and only have one call to make, I’m the guy you should call.”
