Ireland doesn’t need anyone to help validate its firm position as a global golf powerhouse, but Shane Lowry rolled up his sleeves anyway. With his Open Championship win, the Irishman brightened the spotlight on Ireland.
The 148th Open shined at Portrush in Northern Ireland. Now, the magnificent Adare Manor in County Limerick has been announced as host of The Ryder Cup 2026. Adare Manor is about 270 miles/434 kilometers south of Portrush.
“Coming hot on the heels of the truly superb Open at Royal Portrush and the fantastic win by Shane Lowry, today’s announcement that the Ryder Cup will take place at Adare Manor in 2026 is excellent news for tourism, said Julie Wakley, head of Great Britain Tourism Ireland said. “The Ryder Cup is one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world and this promises to be a wonderful sporting occasion, which will undoubtedly bring significant exposure globally for Ireland as a golfing destination.”
The parkland-style Robert Trent Jones Senior redesign meanders through 230 acres of lush parkland and majestic mature trees, bisected at various points by the River Maigue. The closing hole demands an approach shot over water to a green adjacent to the magnificent, turreted 19th-century Adare Manor. It previously hosted The Irish Open, where Dubliner Paul McGinley claimed victory in 2007.
