A Short Series on How to Cure Your Slice

In the first tip of this new series, I have put together a great drill to help you improve your swing path as this is a major cause of the slice, the dreaded OUT to IN swing path.

Most golfers SLICE the ball because they have an OUT to IN swing path and the clubface is open to that path. This puts a tremendous amount of uncontrollable side (slice) spin on the golf ball. The more you slice the golf ball the more you generally swing to the left of your target which just increases the slice spin.

This tip concentrates on improving your swing path, so it becomes an IN to OUT path that will help you to generate a DRAW BALL FLIGHT.

The “Water Bottle” Drill

What a great way to practice at the range and all you need is an empty drinks bottle (plastic works better than glass!!)

1. Make your regular normal parallel set up and place a plastic water bottle 10 inches behind the ball and slightly to the right of the target line (see picture).
2. Make a good normal full backswing with a good solid shoulder rotation.
3. As you start your downswing all your focus should be on missing the bottle creating the feeling of a in to out swing path (black arrow represents swing path).
4. If you hit the bottle you have positive feedback that the swing needs to be more in to out.
5. Try at first in making some Slow Mo golf swings without the ball just to get the feel of the correct path through the hitting area.
6. Hit some full swing soft shots with balls once you have the feel of the correct path and then move up to your normal full flowing pace.
7. Once you have mastered this drill you see a big difference in your ball shape and more DISTANCE!!
