Some folks use the word “muni” to imply simple or basic — not always the case. Sure, there are some goat-track municipals out there, but then again, some of America’s best golf courses are “munis”. Hosts to major championships, there’s Bethpage State Park in New York, home of the challenging Bethpage Black Golf Course, Torey Pines in San Diego and not quite in that company, but almost is this one in Carlsbad, California — The Crossings at Carlsbad.
One thing we’ll remember about The Crossings at Carlsbad in five years?
Opened in 2007 and not far from Callaway and Taylor Made headquarters is this up and down sloping beauty of a golf course. Other than a heavy dose of power lines — the canyon and ocean views are spectacular. Like a resort, this golf course has partnered with local hotels Shereton, Hilton, Marriott and others to offer a stay and play package that ranges between $120 and $200 a night.
A quality par 3 almost 200-yards coming down the stretch.
