Greece: Quality Golf, Ruins from 8th Century BC and Arguably the Most Beautiful Water in the World

Trends are unpredictable. Fashion, art and travel meander without a compass. Ever notice how destinations all of a sudden become in and desirable? Right now, it seems Greece is the place.

Must-see in Greece is The Cyclades, a group of Greek islands including Santorini and Mykonos – the nightlife there is legendary. Athens and historical landmarks such as Acropolis, the Parthenon, the Ancient Agora and the Theatre of Dionysus should be visited.

However, golf should always be on the travel itinerary and when in Greece, the place to play is in Messenia, in the southwestern region of the Peloponnese. Here in Messenia is Costa Navarino resort, which is Greece’s largest tourism development comprising luxury resorts and two golf courses.

PLAY
The Dunes Course opened in May 2010 and was designed by Bernhard Langer. This well-manicured design appropriately plays through olive groves and along the Sellas River. The other golf course, The Bay Course plays near the Navarino Bay. Robert Trent Jones II created this design, it plays only 6,300 yards from the back tees. The Dunes Course is only 6,500 from the tips – these courses don’t beat you up and are fun to play. Some of the best views on the Bay Course are on the front, almost all of the holes play along the water’s edge and look out over the beautiful blue water.

Less than a five-minute drive from the Dunes Course and Bay Course is The Olive Retreat, a luxury villa. Views of the sea and 250 olive trees leave no doubt – this is the way to enjoy Greece. The villa is large enough for 12 guests and includes a personal chef and housekeeping. Guests are greeted at arrival with welcome drinks served by their personal concierge, which can also organize activities such as golf, boating, tennis, biking, hiking, sailing, kayaking, and fishing.

Ideal for golf groups and family reunions – The Olive Retreat offers ultimate peace in the Pylos. Rates range between $1,200/€1,000 and $1,800/€1,400 per night based on season. Daily breakfast is included — chef prepared lunch and dinner can be added in advance of arrival.

Everyone seems to be talking about Greece, but it’s no secret — Greece has been happening since before Christ.
