The folks with Alabama’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail make our top five for worst communicators in the golf industry which is like being one of the best surfers in Santa Barbara. They’re not alone — the golf industry is loaded with anti-talkers and email-boycotters, the type of people that open a brick-and-mortar business and slap a “No Soliciting” sign in the window.
However, we pride ourselves on being straight shooters here at WBGD and give credit where credit is due — it is Alabama that made the golf trail famous. The Trail started with eight golf courses back in 1992 — today it has 11 and has hosted LPGA and PGA Tour events. But perhaps the RTJ Trail’s greatest triumph is its long list of clones. Today there are more than 100 golf trails in North America stretching from the Canadian Rockies to Florida. Who knew Alabama was such an influencer?
One of those new trails is the Citrus Golf Trail headquartered in Seabring, Florida which is about 60 miles south of Disney World. Like a lot of the trails — this vitamin C-themed version has packages and tournaments. They will debut a new event December 2-5, 2021, it’s the Citrus Golf Trail Open for men and women amateurs to be played on the Trail’s six courses: Pinecrest Golf Club, River Greens Golf Course, Sebring International Golf Resort, Sebring Municipal Golf Course and Sun ‘N Lake Golf Club’s Deer Run and Turtle Run courses. Known as the “Value Golf Capital of America,” the Citrus Golf Trail is good anytime, but the tournament is a nice touch for players that like to compete.
“We are thrilled to host the Citrus Golf Trail Open and showcase the Sebring area’s wonderful golf and vacation opportunities,” Casey Hartt of Visit Sebring tells World’s Best Golf Destinations. “Sebring has hosted numerous world-class sporting events over the years, and we are looking forward to adding this golf tournament to our resume of events and highlighting our special part of Florida.”
Other December happenings around town include the Carousel of Lights, Christmas at the Jacaranda Hotel, Lake Placid Christmas Parade and the Bass Pro Shops Tour stop. Seabring is a cozy place with charming locally owned restaurants, bars, good fishing, museums, shops and be sure to say hello to Señor Jalapeño.
WBGD loves places like Seabring and we’re not saying it should replace your annual trip to Scotland, Bandon or wherever you frequent, but check it out at least once.
